2017 Virginia Financial Literacy Summit, October 9, 2017

This FREE annual conference brings together secondary educators for an exciting day of networking and learning best practices for teaching financial literacy. 

2017 Keynote Speaker: Colin Ryan, financial educator and author with the background of a professional comedian and storyteller!

Other speakers and vendors for the day include representatives from: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Wells Fargo, Hanover Safe Place, Next Gen Personal Finance, Virginia Retirement System, Junior Achievement of Central Virginia, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Virginia Council for Economic Education, Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Credit Union, Credit Unions Care Foundation of Virginia, Virginia Society of CPAs, EverFi, Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Bankers Association, Longwood University, Attorney General's Office of Virginia, Securities and Exchange Commission and the Bureau of Insurance.

Teachers that attended may earn up to 6 hours of recertification points pending local approval.

A light breakfast, lunch and parking will be provided free for all participants.

2017 National Educator Conference, November 3-5, 2017

The 2017 Jump$tart Coalition National Educator Conference, the first national conference fully dedicated to personal finance education for teachers, will be held November 3-5 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington D.C. The conference supports the teaching of personal finance by providing an opportunity for teachers to:

  • See, learn about and try education resources ready to be integrated immediately into current lesson plans;
  • Attend informative workshops under three different strands - advocacy, curriculum/content and personal growth;
  • Meet with leaders from finance and education and network with colleagues from across the country; and
  • Receive a certificate of attendance indicating 15 hours of professional development for participating in the entire conference

Teacher Stipend Opportunities

The Virginia Jump$tart Coalition will provide six stipends of $500 each to assist with conference costs, transportation meal expenses and hotel accommodations at the Renaissance Hotel Washington D.C. for six Virginia teachers. Preference will be given to those teachers who have not received a teacher stipend from Virginia Jump$tart in previous years.
